Originally called Union, Virginithe, the town was forced to call for a newly title in the early 1900s because there was already a Union, Virginia post professional someplace else in the state. A title Delta wwhen proposed, because of the shape of the town, as these are bordered per Rappahannock River to a North, the Piankatank River to a south, and the Chesapeake Bay to the east.
